Failed State Update

The 2009 failed-state index, which Foreign Policy publishes in association with the Fund for Peace, has been released. Somalia, Zimbabwe, and Sudan are at the to of the list. Mexico rose from 105 to number 98, an understandable jump given the spike in drug violence in 2008. However, the relatively low ranking is further confirmation that Mexico isn't the cesspool of anarchy that many suggested it was at the beginning of the year.

It's odd how Peretz, Forbes, Gingrich and all the rest of the Mexico-as-hell-on-Earthers have nothing to say now.
