Angling for Position
César Nava has come across in recent weeks as an unpopular kid trying to score an invitation to a party whose host has no intention of inviting him. Here he is declaring himself ready to serve as the leader of the PAN caucus in the Chamber of Deputies. Unfortunately, no one else seems to be interested. A couple of weeks ago, Carlos Loret wrote about how Nava's exit from Los Pinos had to with his disfavor with President Calderón, and how Josefina Vázquez was likely to be the pick. Two days ago, Bajo Reserva reported that Germán Martínez pointedly refused to name Nava as one of the possibilities during a visit with another PAN candidate who is among the potential options, Francisco Ramírez Acuña. So either Nava is land a job that's hopelessly out of reach, or El Universal has consistently read this incorrectly.
