Martí on Reelection

Alejandro Martí's combination of moral authority and good judgment has no peer in Mexico. Despite having the ear of a society given to indignation, and despite his awful experience with crime, he's almost always been measured and logical in his pronouncements. It'll be interesting to see how his role in Mexican society develops. Here he is on an issue close to my heart, reelection:
When we manage to implement reelection in positions of popular election, resignations will be carried out through the negative vote of the citizens. A good deputy can be a deputy for 40 years; a clown who sleeps in the seats [of Congress] will never again be in those seats.
