New Penalty
A law that has passed the House would impose jail sentences of up to 10 years and fines capped at $3 million for anyone caught trafficking drugs to Mexico. The law also creates a Mérida Initiative coordinator who will evaluate the program's effectiveness, and who will presumably attempt to unclog the bottlenecks that have slowed delivery of the aid.
