Where Shakira Isn't Popular

According to an AP article, South Africans are none too thrilled about her recording the theme song for the World Cup, a tune called Waka Waka. Among the quotes:
It's horrible.

I don't think it's any good. What will the president do about it?

Let's be serious. She can't sing like an African.

Maybe not true. When I was in Gabon in 2005, I walked into the hotel only to hear Shakira's "Ojos Asi" playing over the radio. It was an odd moment.

That's pretty crazy. She should be our ambassador when the aliens come. I liked how before the 2006 World Cup final, it was she (Colombian) and Wyclef (Haitian), playing before a German audience as Italy and France were about to kick off, singing in English. Quite a picture of the modern world.
