(At the risk of turning a tragedy into an occasion for crude electoral speculation...) David Agren points out in comments that the Paulette case is really undermining Enrique Peña Nieto's popularity. Indeed, a new poll shows that 45 percent of the electorate views him more negatively today as a result of the case, a number that suggests that his cakewalk to the presidency just got a lot less cakey. And, insofar as Peña Nieto's government handled the thing horribly, rightly so.
Update: David deals with the same subject at greater depth here.
