Violence, Halfway Through

Milenio puts the number of murders due to organized crime through three years of Calderón's government at 16,000. It also tallies the number of murders in 2009 at almost 7,400. Both numbers are a bit higher than what I've seen in other media outlets. Some discrepancy is understandable, given that the definition of organized crime is in and of itself a bit hard to pin down. On the plus side, the number of killings in November was the lowest it's been since May. And with Juárez awakening under blanket of snow, maybe the sicarios will be encouraged to spend a greater portion of December indoors as well.
