More Questionable Doings from the Senate
There is a movement afoot in the Senate to remove the investigative functions from the Supreme Court. The argument is that Mexico would be better served if said responsibility resided with the National Commission on Human Rights. That seems like a reasonable argument, but it needs to be weighed against the reality that the CNDH can't be improved overnight, but the Court is making pretty good use of its investigative right now. If the Senate moves forward with the proposal, the danger would be that the promised strengthening of the CNDH would never happen, but the disappeared powers of the Court will never be recovered.
