Hike in Fees
The Mexico City metro will be raising rates. Not a moment too soon, too: at only 2 pesos (around $0.16) a ride, the DF metro is unbelievably cheap. (It will soon be 3 pesos, still a shocking bargain.) Chicago's is ten times as expensive. Madrid's is more than five times as much. According to this site, Mexico's metro is the cheapest in the world. I am fairly certain that when I first rode a subway (Washington D.C.'s) about 25 years ago, it was significantly pricier than the present cost of a ride on the rails in Mexico City.
