Stealing Candidates

A union leader who was expected to line up as a PRI candidate has switched to the PAN, presumably bringing the members of the public health workers union along with him. Excélsior criticizes the PAN for "corporatizing" in its front-page headline on the story, referring to the Latin American governing tradition of establishing segmented, hierarchical relationships with large groups of voters, just as the PRI did for decades. (I'm sure there's a better pithy definition Latin American political corporatism out there. If you can think of one, fire away in the comments section.) The PRI, predictably, is not flattered by the PAN's imitation, calling it "shameless piracy".
