Murdered Candidate
Rodolfo Torre, the PRI candidate for governor in Tamaulipas (which is to say, the future governor of Tamaulipas), was assassinated earlier today. I've not had a great deal of time to reflect, but this strikes me as the boldest and most worrying assassination of a public official at least since Édgar Millán's in 2008. Tamaulipas is presently the site of fighting between Gulf traffickers and the Zetas, so I imagine that the speculation and reporting about motive will have to do with his relationship with those two groups.
