Excélsior reports today that a chip that Diego Fernández had inserted into his body in 2004 was found some 40 kilometers from the ranch where he was abducted. Evidently, it had been removed with a pair of scissors. The article also states that five lines of investigation are still being considered: it was a profit-motivated kidnapping, stemmed from a personal or professional vendetta, is related to drug gangs/organized crime, is due to political motivations, or was the work of a radical ideological group. Earlier this week, an associate of Fernández assured us that it was a very powerful criminal group that was behind the attack, which would seem to point toward option one or three.
