It Could Have Been Still Worse
Secretary of Public Security Genaro García Luna was supposed to be on the flight that crashed in Mexico City on Tuesday, saved only by a last-minute scheduling problem. This piece of info adds some circumstantial credence to the idea that the crash was the result of cartel sabotage, as García Luna has been threatened in the past. As devastating as the deaths of Juan Camilo Mouriño and José Luis Santiago were, the sense of a government barely hanging on by a thread would have been far more prevalent had García been on board.
