Priorities for Gómez Mont

Felipe Calderón has instructed his new interior secretary to make blocking the contribution of drug money to the upcoming mid-term campaigns. This certainly should be a priority for the Calderón administration, and it shows a long-term strategic commitment to fighting the cartels for which Calderón doesn't get enough credit. It does make me wonder, however, if not having a close confidant at his side will make the president less bold in pursuing new legislation. Calderón's agenda was obviously going to slow down ahead of the elections with or without Mouriño, but unless I'm mistaken, safeguarding elections was left more to his security cabinet while Mouriño was in charge at Gobernación.
