Fernández Menéndez Part 1

Jorge Fernández Menéndez has had a slew of good columns this week, and he hasn't appeared here in a while, so he's going to occupy a good chunk of my morning posts. Here he is with a particularly appropriate comment on Tuesday's events:
The tragedy came in the same moment as one of the most significant moments in contemporary history, on an afternoon that should have been, and for a good part of the world was, a party: the triumph of Barack Obama. It was the victory of loyalty to himself, of effort, of determination, of a generation that finally achieved power, while in our Mexico we suffered a heartwrenching blow. There remains, through it all, a lesson: 40 years after the assassinations of Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy...the true inspirations of Obama, the past was defeated through the vote, the people, and dedication, and not through vengeance. Let's hope it doesn't take us as long.
