Magua as Mayweather

I just saw Last of the Mohicans for probably the twenty-third time, and in each viewing, a new wrinkle reveals itself. This time: Magua's speech patterns closely resemble those of the a boxer, what with his constant references to himself in the third-person. For instance:
Magua: [speaking Huron] Magua understands that the white man is a dog to his women. When they are tired, he puts down his tomahawk to feed their laziness.
Duncan: Excuse me, what did you say?
Magua: Magua said... I understand English, very well.
I think I saw Larry Merchant lurking around the mountainside with a microphone in the final scene, too, although Magua was not in any condition to grant an interview afterward.
