Upping the Ante
The Mexican army has announced that it will triple the number of soldiers in Juárez, which remains far and away the most dangerous spot in Mexico. Eighteen hundred have already deployed, with about 3,500 more to arrive shortly; the final total will be some 7,300 soldiers battling at least three main gangs: the Family, the Sinaloa cartel, and the Juárez cartel. For the sake of comparison, Philadelphia, which is about the same size as Juárez, has a police department of 6,900 cops.
