With last night's scoreless tie against Toluca, the chances of Santos returning for a finals rematch with Cruz Azul seem increasingly likely. Toluca had the higher point total in the regular season, so Santos needs to take Sunday's game on the road to advance. Complicating matters further, the Diablos Rojos are also on an amazing defensive run: eight consecutive games without a goal.
The Cuauhtémoc Blanco signing worked out fabulously against San Luis, but neither he nor anyone else was able to do much against Toluca. Santos really missed Christian Benítez, whose explosiveness would have done a lot to soften up Toluca's tight defense. The Laguneros also missed Fernando Arce, who was injured in the eighth minute, given how almost all of their tries came from outside the box, and how good Arce is at launching deep shots.
