Congrats Ladies!

Today is International Day of the Woman. Here are some of Felipe Calderón's comments on the matter:
And because we are determined to construct a more egalitarian Mexican, in which men and women have the same opportunities, regardless of what happens in the rest of the world, such as the current crisis, which is perhaps the most severe the modern economy has experienced, regardless of that and whatever happens, we will support the women of Mexico.
As I post the above passage, it dawns on me how merely being president makes your every comment, no matter how banal, relevant. Calderón's speech was not particularly insightful, nor will it (or much of anything he has done) change any Mexican woman's existence, yet it was newsworthy. How exhausting.
