Perhaps in response to the aggressive posture of the now-famous mayor of San Pedro Garza García toward organized crime, yesterday was a violent day in the Monterrey region. A retired general serving as police chief in García, Nuevo León was ambushed and murdered along with four bodyguards after he answered calls for help from the town's mayor. The mayor was in the midst of a meeting at his house when he noticed a number of suspicious cars outside, which prompted his calls for help.
