The Man to Beat
According to Excélsior's pollster, the favorite for the left's presidential nomination in 2012 remains Marcelo Ebrard. He was known by 80 percent of those polled, and he was the only leftist for whom impressions or mostly positive. The only figures better known than Ebrard were Margarita Zavala and Enrique Peña Nieto. Should Ebrard manage to win the PRD without splitting the left (a big if), the latter figures to be his biggest obstacle to the presidency.
