Evaluating the Army

The armed forces commission in the Chamber of Deputies will be taking a look at the army's ongoing role in domestic crime-fighting. The newly installed chairman of the committee, the PRI's Ardelio Vargas, had the following comments:
We have to begin moving toward that, toward making a integrated public security and prevention system in Mexico a reality, and in so doing the armed forces would have to begin returning to their barracks.

That's the aspiration that we have; we will revise it very carefully. That would be ideal, I would like it to be this afternoon, [but] that takes time.

It will be the motive for many reunions of course with the very heads of the armed forces and the civil police.
