The Damage
El Universal reports that upwards of 7,700 people were killed in violence stemming from organized crime in Mexico in 2010, a leap of more than 2,000 according to their figures (which do not coincide with official numbers; if you accept both the 7,700 and the PGR figures from 2008, the jump was less than 1,500). About a third of those deaths were in Juárez. Here's to 2010 being a safer year, in Juárez especially, and in Mexico in general.
