Overnight Changes
My oh my: You go to sleep one day, and you wake the next with one of the countries' electric companies having been taken over. Last night at about 10:30, a thousand federal police troops took over the installations of the Compañía de Luz y Fuerza del Centro, which supplies the populous Central Valley (including Mexico City) with electricity, and announced its disappearance. The Excélsior link says it was Calderón's decision, and that the takeover is due the company's inefficiency. The union that staffs the company and had been in conflict with the federal government in recent days has termed the move an abuse of authority and has demanded an explanation. The federal government has denied that it has plans to privatize the company. More to come.
