The Missing Deputy
The only one of the 500 deputies-elect who was not sworn in this weekend was Julio César Godoy, wanted by federal authorities for his connections to the Michoacán criminal group, The Family. Since then, despite the pleas of his fellow perredistas and even his half-brother (the governor of Michoacán), Godoy has lived on the lam. Now, he has reappeared, hopeful that he will be granted the exemption from prosecution that elected officials in Mexico enjoy, despite the preexisting warrant for his arrest.
