Indictments

Attorney General Eric Holder (with Pat Fitzgerald by his side) today announced the indictment of 43 Mexican organized crime figures, among them Nacho Coronel, Chapo Guzmán, Vicente Carrillo, the Beltrán Leyva brothers, and Ismael Zambada. He also said that the organization known as the Gulf cartel now calls itself the Company, something I'd not heard before.

Its a bit like the 'singer formerly known as Prince'...the drug traffickers formerly known as 'The Gulf Cartel'.......I wonder if they have a logo too...

what with the main organization in Michoacán being called 'la Familia' and now 'the Company'......what next for the gang in Sinaloa?...the New Legionnaires of Christ?

Yeah, it's a bit much. I mentioned a few months ago that where possible, I think the US should be avoiding the use of mystical, aggrandizing nicknames. (In that event, there was a woman narco whom everyone called Chiquis, which is really common and a bit like Cutie or something like that. We arrested her or indicted her and announced that she was actually the Empress.) If no one here calls them the Company, why should we be bestowing a nickname that makes them sound cooler? Unfortunately, no one has listened to me.
