Less Motherly

Mexican moms are spending less time on their kids in the past: according to the National Population Council, whereas 30 years ago the average mother dedicated 22 years of her life to child-rearing, today that number has dropped to 13, a roughly 40 percent drop. The fertility rate in Mexico went from 5.3 children per women in 1980 to 2.37 today, a drop of more than 40 percent, which would indicate that the average Mexican kid today receives more attention from mom than he did in the 1970s. Another finding: the percentage of 15-year-old mothers has dropped from 30 percent of all 15-year-olds in 1976 to just 5.5 percent today.
