It Depends on Your Definition of "Advantage"

I just finished reading David Leonhardt's interview with Barack Obama from a couple of weeks ago (here's a couple of sharp responses), and I couldn't help be reminded of the following campaign analysis:
Neither candidate has particularly deep economic knowledge or finely honed economic instincts. Neither has any clear idea exactly what to do in the current financial meltdown.

Neither candidate has an advantage on this issue.
It was a silly idea then, and it hasn't aged well.
