Economic Predictions

Agustín Carstens is prediction a rebound in 2010 of 3 percent growth. Of course, he's predicting a 5.5 percent contraction this year, which is probably about 2 points too low, so maybe we should assume that 1 percent growth is on tap for next year. For a less biased assessment, La Jornada ran a piece featuring the predictions of José Juan Ruiz, a former official from Felipe González's government who now works for the bank Santander. Ruiz said the region may start showing some expansion next year, but it will be 2011 before the region's economy returns to levels of health growth.
