A New Low?

Things are not good for Mexico's national team when it can only manage a 1-1 with Panama, and no one is even talking about the unacceptable result. The night's most memorable moment was when Javier Aguirre delivered a kick to the midsection of Panamanian Ricardo Phillips. After Phillips retaliated with a push, they were both ejected. It's hard to find any logic whatsoever in Vasco's move; it wasn't like it was out of anger, because this kick had little force; it wasn't a misguided way to fire up the team, which was in the midst of its best stretch of soccer of the game, only to have the wind sucked out during the ten minute discussion following the kick; he wasn't trying to stop the ball rolling by, which he missed by about five feet; it looked more than anything like he just momentarily forgot where he was, a la Steve Lyons dropping his pants (no video, sorry) after sliding into first.
