Crazy Allegation

The fugitive half-brother of Michoacán's governor is alleged to have ordered the murder of 12 federal police officers last month. The accusers are captured members of the criminal group the half-brother (Julio César Godoy) is said to be a part of (hence his fugitive status), La Familia. Evidently, they refer to him as Comandante Godoy.

At this point, who knows what the truth is, but this smells sensational.

It's closer to the truth than to sensationalism. Leonel Godoy has long been associated with narcos. That much is common knowledge in the state in which he is governor.

That much is certainly clear, but Godoy having a "relationship" with organized crime (which with most pols is taking cash to look the other way or attack patrons' competitors) a little different from his brother ordering the execution and gruesome display of 12 federal officers. I'm not saying the allegation is wrong (after all, about Michoacán I only know what I read in the papers), but you could definitely see a scenario in which the his erstwhile criminal compatriots accused JC Godoy because they thought it would win them better treatment from the federal government. But again, this is all speculation.
