Thankfully, sober-minded leaders like Marcelo Ebrard are still in charge of much of the country.

The International Hub for Bad Ideas
July 5 is election day, and officials want Mexicans to make their selections with a clear head, free from the malign influence of demon booze that can make left seem like right, fascist look like communist, and turn PRD voters into PAN enthusiasts. That's why the sale of alcohol has been banned across the Laguna on July 5. And, less necessarily, July 4. Seriously, what a stupid idea, what possible impact could drinking on July 4 have on the voting on July 5? If they think that this is going to prevent me from exercising my God-given right to knock back a few on Independence day, they are sooooooorely mistaken.
