The PRI will elect their candidate in 2012 with a primary. I'm not certain if not doing was was ever under consideration, and both Madrazo and Labastida were picked with via primaries. However, the PRI has been selecting a lot of local candidates by less open means, so it's nice to see that habit not expand to the presidential process.
