This typically insightful column from Fred Kaplan seems like the perfect occasion to say that
Daydream Believers was the best new book I read in 2008, narrowly edging out
U.S. Versus Them. To be fair to the other books that didn't make the cut, I should make clear that I think these are the only two books in English published this year that I read, but they were both great. I'll be making a large donation to a charity of Kaplan's choice shortly.
