The one downside to the World Cup's arrival is the inevitable, unwinnable, hopelessly tired discussions about
whether or not soccer is going to take off in the US, those
who don't want soccer to take off, why it's
hard to be a fan because soccer hasn't taken off,
whether soccer can take off, why
soccer shouldn't take off, if
soccer has in fact already taken off, and
derivatives thereof. Who on earth cares!?
Of all of the different storylines of the World Cup, from Drogba's arm to the spooky ball to Messi's attempts to capture his Barcelona form with the
Albicelestes to the vuvuzelas to Maradona's toilet, this is the stupidest, yet we have to listen to it every four years. The only subplot that less interests me is
Ronaldo's underwear advertising.
Couldn't agree more with your sentiments. At the end of the day, if soccer is going to take off in the US, then that's great. If not, then that's great too! I don't see why it's so important either way!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, I completely agree! The US is plainly not the center of the sport and it's plenty interesting, especially during the World Cup of all times, regardless of that fact.
